Module-IM51A

INTRODUCTION

IM51A is an industrial LTE Cat M1 & Cat NB1 & EGPRS Module designed for use with the Brodersen RTU32 Series. IM51A is offering a maximum data rate of 375Kbps downlink and 375Kbps uplink. IM51A is an LTE Cat M1 & CAT NB1 module optimized specially for Utility and IoT applications, supporting also EGPRS. Connection management and maintenance is controlled by the RTU logic and provide an open wireless network connection for any network based communication protocol like Modbus TCP, IEC60870 or DNP3. Main communication and power interface is USB 2.0 or backplane for RTU32M series. IM51A has built-in SIM card slot. External antenna is connected via the SMA antenna connector to provide good field strength to ensure reliable communication links. In addition the IM51A has a watchdog interface for hard resetting the modem. Reset can be done from external or from Logic. IM51A is an LTE Cat M1/Cat NB1 module optimized specially for Utility and IoT applications, with low power consumption. TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION
The IM51A modem is designed for working with the Brodersen RTU32 Series. Via modem drivers in the RTUs it establish connection over LTE, EDGE, GPRS to remote
host/Servers. When a connection is established, a new network connection is available for any network driver’s support by the actual RTU. The modem drivers control both connection details and maintain and monitor the connection. The connection management can be configured to be automatically at
power up or it can be controlled from the PLC logic. The IM51A has a DC input for enabling the watchdog. It is provided to handle known problems with network
provider system that occasionally can go into a dead lock – and the only way out is a complete hardware reset (power cycle) of the modem.
Using default RTU32 Real Time Operating System it offers access and support to a wide range of standard network protocols like TCP/UDP/PPP/FTP/HTTP/NTP/
PING/QMI/NITZ/SMTP/MQTT/CMUX/HTTPS/FTPS /SMTPS /SSL
Basic Setup and Configuration The RTU32 Series products support IM51A modem
handling and control. The modem control is enabled from the website
configuration page under the Modem Settings menu. If enabled, the modem can be configured to establish 4G/GPRS connection automatically at power up or 100%
controlled by the PLC runtime . In addition the website page provide information about
current modem state, signal strength and much more.

Introduction to LB2 I/O Series

The Brodersen LB2 I/O modules are designed for the RTU32M & RTU32N series. The I/O modules are in two parts, a bottom part containing the backplane bus, and a top part containing the I/O board and logic. All LB2 modules are hot swappable and equipped with a 200 MHz processor to process I/O, handle filtering, SOE, debounce, module clock and general module logic. Diagnostic variables are available for all LB2 I/O modules. Please see the module datasheets for full info.

Module firmware update is handled at the RTU level from the Brodersen WorkSuite.

Use only genuine Brodersen bus cables for connection to Brodersen RTUs and for extension of I/O module blocks. The connection cables for the LB2 backplane bus are designed to meet the power requirements and shielding to run high speed communications. The maximum overall length of a complete system is 40 meters. Each LB2 I/O module & power supply module is calculated as 2 cm. The cables are as the length indicates, e.g. UCC-610/1 count as 100 cm.

The maximum system configuration is 60 I/O modules on one LB2 Bus. If the configuration exceeds 60 I/O modules, an additional CPU is required.
