WorkSuite – project example

WorkSuite allows creation of ‘projects’ that each store a complete RTU application.  A project can be shared amongst RTUs and interact with library files of programs and user defined functions and function blocks, making re-use and version control easy.  WorkSuite also provides interfaces for managing I/O, database variables, communications channels and protocols and has impressive debugging tools to aid with getting systems operational.

Creating an example project with I/O, Modbus and DNP3 protocols

1 - create a new project
Creating a new project is easy! Give it a name and choose the program language. You can change it and add more programs in different languages later...
2 - setup the RTU I/O
Use the RTU Configurator to upload the I/O modules from your RTU - or add them from the menu if offline
3 - review I/O setup
Click on an I/O module to access its setup parameters if required eg. set analog scaling and filtering, or invert a DI, or set the failsafe output action (ON, OFF, or KEEP)
4 - create the I/O variables
The I/O variables wizard makes it quick to create variables for the RTU I/O channels
5 - download and watch it!
Prove your basic RTU application works by downloading it to the RTU and observing the I/O
6 - add some logic
Add a program and get familiar with logic editor. Then download the updates and prove it works!
7 - add a Modbus slave
Use the Fieldbus Configurator to enable Modbus, then drag in the variables to be exposed as Modbus points
8 - add a DNP3 slave
Use the Fieldbus Configurator to enable DNP3 slave, drag in variables to expose as DNP3 points to the Profile editor and set the attributes (event class, etc)
