IEC61850 Server

Try out the online RTU configurator. It calculates it all, even the power consumption so you dont have to worry about it. Get a complete BOM list, and never forget anything.

KEMA Certified IEC 61850 Digital Substation

In the transition towards a smarter grid, the adoption of IEC 61850-based substation automation and control systems is among the most notable trends. Brodersen provides comprehensive RTU solutions that support IEC 61850 Edition 1 & Edition 2. This enables fast, reliable, and secure access to data and control over the substation. Log directly from within the RTU for enchanced protocol analysis using Wireshark. Brodersen RTUs support IEC 61850 Client & Server with GOOSE..

IEC 61850 Server

The Brodersen IEC 61850 Server interface allows the RTU to emulate IEC 61850 devices (IEDs/Servers). The IED editor allows creation of logical nodes and association of local I/O and variables to the node objects/attributes.  RTU variables can be automatically generated to map or translate the IED data attributes for use with other protocols – making it easy to consolidate data from multiple devices, and to provide HMI functionality.

Overview – creating an IEC61850 server application

The slideshow below shows how an IEC61850 server application is created and includes extracts from an example substation. WorkSuite includes an SCL Editor allowing creation of IEDs.

1 - create an example 61850 Server project
Add a new project in WorkSuite, then add the 61850 Server driver.
2 - create an IED
The IED editor allows creation and association of all of the various object components that make up an IED. These include, LD - Logical Device, LN - Logical Node, DO - Object Data Class and DA - Data Attribute.
3 - the RTU can emulate one or more IEDs
Each IED has its own device description file (.icd) that includes all of the data structure information for all of the devices and their logical nodes. The WorkSuite IED editor can create ICD files, or existing files can be imported/edited to create appropriate data structures.
4 - project overview
RTU device profile - associates the RTU variable to the IED - Device/Logical Node/DO/Attribute
